BrightIdeas – (Application Deadline Extended – 16th December- For Students in Year 12
BrightIdeas is a research project for Year 12 students across Kent, Sussex and Hampshire that seeks to combine scientific literature with patient insight. Students applying from the aforementioned areas will be given priority, however we are now welcoming applications from students elsewhere in England too.
Supported by a current medical student as an E-mentor, students interested in studying medicine and enrolled on the BrightIdeas project will:
· Choose a medical condition of interest, e.g. autism, dementia, HIV, leukaemia
· Research the science behind the condition
· Explore the social implications and social stigmas of the condition via discussions with patients, or anyone who has cared for patients with the condition
· Report their findings via an essay, video, podcast, blog etc
· Share their reports at the BrightIdeas Conference which will take place during a summer school - funded by Health Education England - at either the University of Kent or the University of Sussex
· Reflect on their experiences.
Throughout the year, students enrolled in the programme will attend an online Launch and Mid-point Review event via Zoom, as well as an in-person 3-night summer school* at either the University of Kent or the University of Sussex.
*Please note for the in-person summer school, we will be guided by government and university advice. It will only go ahead if it’s safe to do so. If it can’t be run in person, there will be an online event.
To find out more about the programme, including the eligibility criteria and application form, please visit/signpost your students to the BrightIdeas Sway here. We have extended the deadline to allow for more applications so would be most grateful if you're able to give this one final push to your students!
If you and/or your students have any questions about BrightIdeas, please contact Charlotte Smyrk via firstname.lastname@example.org
