BSMS Teachers and Advisers Update

Please see the information below from the February edition of the BSMS Teachers and Advisers Update.

February Monthly Lecture – Wednesday 7 February

In February’s monthly lecture lecture, Dr Lisa Quadt will talk about research on brain-body interactions in neurodivergent adults and how this science can help improve quality of life.

Dr Quadt will present findings from three strands of research, looking at (1) bodily mechanisms, such as differences in the fight-or-flight nervous system, (2) sensory differences in how the world, one’s own body, and other people is perceived, and (3) the impact of living in a world that is built for and favours the non-neurodivergent majority.

Dr Lisa Quadt is a neurodivergent researcher in the Department of Clinical Neuroscience and BSMS. Her research focuses on brain-body interactions in neurodivergent adults, and how we can improve their lives through tailored and novel support strategies.

This lecture will be delivered online via the Zoom platform from 6:30pm – 7:30pm.

Anatomy Night: Matters of the Heart – Wednesday 14 February

Join BSMS for a very special Valentine’s Day event, as our anatomy team explore the scientific wonders of the heart.

Our anatomists will take you on a guided tour of this remarkable organ while dissecting a real one live. You will see how blood enters the heart, where the real heartstrings are and understand how it beats.

At the end of the tour, you can even get your gloves on and get involved! The dissection will be followed by Q&As.

Please note: this event is suitable for children aged 14+ (under 16s must be accompanied by an adult). The team will be dissecting animal hearts.
