BSMS Teachers’ Newsletter: June Updates

Monthly Lecture Series

Wednesday 4 June, 6:30-7:30pm

This month, we’re joined by Dr. Iris Asllani to hear about her work on Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI).

This talk explores strategies to scale access to Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) in both clinical and research settings, with a focus on neuroscience applications. We'll examine current barriers – technological, infrastructural, and economic – and highlight innovations that are enabling wider deployment of MRI, from low-field systems to novel acquisition and processing techniques. Emphasis will be placed on how these advances can improve diagnostic equity, accelerate research in underserved regions, and reshape the global landscape of neuroimaging.

Sign up now to join us for “Scaling MRI Access: Innovations Enabling Broader Clinical and Research Impact” on 4 June, 6:30-7:30pm, on Zoom.

BSMS Admissions Talks: Summer Series

Our Summer Series of Admissions Talks is designed to help prospective students understand the medical school applications process as well as providing an insight into what life is like at university once they get here.

We'll be running three online talks on Zoom to help answer questions about medical school. You can use the links below to register for each talk:

Gresham College – What next for Immunity?

Wednesday 11 June, 6:00pm

Gresham College are hosting an exciting free lecture on the future of immunity.

Our understanding of the human immune system today is vastly different from that of 50 years ago. This knowledge has led to immune-based therapies that would have seemed like science fiction to our grandparents: monoclonal antibodies, T-cell therapies, anti-cancer vaccines, precision immune suppression – the list is endless.

In this lecture, Professor Robin May looks to the future and asks, “What next for immunity?”

You can register to watch this lecture online, or book a place to attend in person in London.

On-Campus Meet & Greet – July

Wednesday 30 July, 1:30-3:30pm

We are running another on-campus Meet & Greet event for prospective students to visit us on the University of Sussex campus. If students are unable to attend our Open Day on 7 June, this is another great opportunity to discover BSMS.

Visitors will attend an introductory "Welcome to BSMS" talk, go on a campus tour and have their questions answered at our Q&A. They will also get the chance to chat to staff and current students.

Register here. All are welcome at the BSMS Meet and Greet sessions; however, places will be limited to 60 attendees in total. Please note that completing the form does not automatically guarantee a space on the Campus Meet and Greet. Registrants should wait for a confirmation email to come through before making travel plans.

Best wishes,
Agatha
