CIMR Reaching Research

On the 28th, 29th and 30th of July 2025 (10am-12pm each day), the Cambridge Institute of Medical Research (CIMR) is running an online event called Reaching Research aimed at students in Years 12 and 13 interested in studying medicine, biomedical sciences, biochemistry, biology etc. at university. 

Reaching Research will consist of:

  • Several talks from biomedical scientists at different stages of their careers.
  • lab experiment carried out in CIMR.
  • Information about university admissions.

Speakers include PhD students, research assistants, postdoctoral researchers, and group leaders. Each scientist will discuss their career background, current research topics and advice to students considering careers in science.

At the end of the three days, we will have a quiz with a top prize of £50 and two runner-up prizes of £25 worth of Amazon vouchers!

The event is aimed at students in Y12 and 13 attending state schools, with priority given to students who meet one or more of our additional criteria detailed on our website.

ASNC Department Open Day 2025

If you are considering applying for a place for Anglo-Saxon, Norse & Celtic from October 2026 you are warmly invited to our Open Day on Wednesday 2nd July 2025 from 12.15. The teaching staff will describe the courses they provide, the kinds of materials studied, the range of choices the Tripos offers, and the kinds of employment our graduates move into. There will be opportunities to put questions to staff and current students and to ask advice about application procedures for both prospective students and accompanying parents. A visit to a College Library to view Anglo‑Saxon and other medieval manuscripts will follow the presentations.

Archaeology Webinars

Discover what it’s like to study Archaeology at Cambridge.
Interested in the human past and want to find out what that means at Cambridge? Do you enjoy history, art, language or science? Join us for a series of online webinars with lecturers from the Department of Archaeology.
The BA (Hons) Archaeology at Cambridge is made up of four subject areas: Archaeology, Biological Anthropology, Assyriology and Egyptology.
Each webinar will consist of an introduction to the subject area, a 30-minute taster lecture and a Q&A with a Cambridge academic. The final sessions will cover where Archaeology can take you in the future and how best to prepare for applying to Cambridge. All sessions will take place on Zoom on Wednesday evenings from 5-6pm. Sessions and dates are as follows:

  • Wednesday 7th May – Archaeology with Prof Cyprian Broodbank
  • Wednesday 14th May – Egyptology with Dr Kate Spence
  • Wednesday 28th May – Assyriology/Mesopotamian Archaeology with Dr Steve Renette
  • Wednesday 4th June – Biological Anthropology with Dr Emma Pomeroy
  • Wednesday 11th June – What can you do with Archaeology? With Dr Dacia Viejo-Rose, Sarah-Jane Harknett, Dr Jody Joy and Dr Jimena Lobo Guerrero Arenas
  • Wednesday 18th June – How to apply and hear from some alumni with Dr Sam Lucy, Dr Matt Brudenell and Dr Emma Brownlee

Who can attend?
These webinars are open to all students who aged 14 and above. We particularly welcome attendees from Year 12 (England and Wales), Year 13 (Northern Ireland), S5 (Scotland) or equivalent. Students currently studying at international schools are also very welcome to attend.
